Mickey (In The Morning) Bunn
Station Manager, Morning Show Host, Program Director
Mickey was born in Brownsville, Tennessee. He was raised up around Dickson, but a job with a local apparel manufacturer brought him to Hickman County in 1991. Mickey had always dreamed of being a radio disc jockey. As a kid, he'd sit in his room, cue up records and cassette tapes and imagine he was the local radio announcer. He had never been able to find anyone who would give him the chance at radio until he met Steve Turner, a local radio station manager who would turn out to be a good friend and, eventually, his employer. Mickey was announcer for a Saturday morning Bluegrass show called the "Dixie Ramblers Show" when he met Steve. The show moved to WNKX in mid-1993. Mickey and Steve met for the first time in a parking lot in Bucksnort, Tennessee on a Friday night to exchange some equipment for the Saturday Morning broadcast. Steve had heard the show and felt Mickey had potential. He asked Mickey to come by and talk to him. They made an appointment and met at the station a few days later. After studying the offer, Mickey decided to give it a shot. If he would ever do radio, this may be the chance he'd been waiting for. He was hired as a sales rep and part-time announcer in September 1993. Mickey never worked part-time, as fate would have it, he was needed on a full-time basis immediately. Mickey was asked to assume the duties of Music Director and later acting News Director. Terry Durham, Morning Show Host and News Director, was very sick and unable to work full-time. Mickey was eventually asked to take over hosting the morning show. He is also the station "Fix-It Man", serving as an in-House engineer keeping things sounding and functioning good. Mickey was named Airplay International's "DJ of The Year" in 1997 and named the Hickman County Chamber of Commerce's "Citizen of the Year" in 2004. He has received numerous other awards throughout the years. Mickey has gone through some tough times and big changes in his life, but has always gotten back up, brushed himself off, and marched on. Mickey recently married his longtime good friend Gayla Kelley Burlison and he says now his life is complete. They both re-joined their church and re-dedicated their life and he said they rely daily on guidance from above. Mickey and Gayla have 4 chldren. Micheal, Billy, Cassie and James Thomas J.T. (Little Man) Bunn. They have two grandchildren, Heaven and James. Mickey focuses many hours of his time with his Saturday Morning Radio Show, The Grinders Switch Hour ®. But Monday through Friday mornings from 6 til 9, he's waking up listeners in Southwest Middle Tennessee with a good mix of Classic Country, Bluegrass and some good ol' Southern Comedy. Tommy Vest~Sales Manager
I was born and raised in Hartselle, Al and have lived there all my life. I met Sheila at a singing. We became friends and she invited me to come up and hear her boss (Steve Turner) sing. And the rest, as they say, is history! He talked with me and asked me to come up and sell advertising. I am now the Sales Manager and Sheila & I are married! I love the challenge of sitting down with a client and custom tailoring an advertising package to meet their needs while increasing business for KiX96. I believe radio advertising is the smartest way to increase traffic for your business.
